What is a book seat?

A book seat is a small desktop book shelf; it is known as a book seat as the shelf is tilted back by a few degrees, like a chair, to prevent the books from falling forwards and allow the book spines to be easily read.

A book seat is the ideal solution for the storage of books which are frequently in use. They have been very popular in the past, but are difficult to find now and their usefulness seems to have been forgotten.

Recently a biographer commissioned me to make him a book seat. He needed something elegant to keep on his desk where he could easily reach the reference books he needed whilst researching his latest biography. He was elated by his acquisition and this now seems to have rekindled an interest in this very useful piece of furniture.

We have since made many books seats in a range of designs for a variety of situations, such as Cookery books in the kitchen, novels by the bedside and reference books in the study.
