Ash:

A white to light brown hardwood with a medium to coarse texture. Older trees are sometimes found with a dark stained heart known as Olive Ash

Beech:

Straight grained wood with a fine even texture. Whitish brown mellowing to a yellowish brown.

Cherry:

A pale yellow to light reddish brown wood, sometimes with greenish cast. Cherry has a fine even texture.

Elm:

Coarse texture and often an irregular grain. The wood is pale brown sometimes with a reddish tint.

Oak:

A yellowish brown durable wood, with a medium to coarse texture. Distinctive pattern when quarter sawn.

Sycamore:

Fine even texture. Usually straight grained, but can by wavy. White to yellowish white in colour
